This is not a slam of the iPhone, it's a realization that I've changed.
Don't get me wrong. I love Apple. I've owned over 10 Apple computers in my life. I worked for Apple during college. I have many friends that work for Apple. I've owned Apple stock (sadly not now.) And I even owned 2 Newtons.
It's just at the end of the day... who cares. My awesome little Blackberry does everything I need from it and it makes phone calls just like Apple's gizmo. If I ran out and bought one today, my life would be no more complete, or valued. My family and friends would love me no more or less. Greatness is never purchased.
I have grown up. I am immune. Hype doesn't work on me any longer. I create hype every day at work. I work in advertising.
I will wait for the dust to settle, and I'll see you in line at the Apple store for the 4th Gen version.
(This post is unusual for me... out of almost 600 posts so far, this might be only my 2nd real self-important commentary.)
Update:
So I just visted my local Apple store at got my hands on the bugger. While I still find no need to buy one "now" - it really is an impressive technically designed device. I'm not canceling my Verizon account anytime soon. But if I was looking for a phone, or out of my contract, I would definitely consider spending the money. The videos looked great (not that you'll want to kill your battery watching a 2 hour movie.), music was the best ipod yet, Wi-Fi web was the best I've seen on a small device, typing was ok, and I have no idea what a phone call sounds like. Over-all it's pretty bad-ass (and smaller than I thought.)
